Activated vs. Sprouted

Soaking and activating are the same
thing essentially, and soaking leads to sprouting. However, nuts don’t sprout
(except for almonds). When soaking other nuts, you will see that they can’t sprout, and this is because they have been removed from their outer shell where they would normally sprout from, but soaking nuts removes the phytic acid making them easier to digest.

Everything else when soaked can
sprout such as seeds, beans and legumes, unless of course, they have been pasteurized. This is why it’s always important to buy unpasteurized and organic food. There are charts and tables for how long to soak your nuts, seeds, and legumes.

On another note, many grains should
also be soaked, such as quinoa, rice, amaranth and others. While rice is a
grain, quinoa is a seed and soaking also helps aid in the digestion process.
